646f9e108c When an android replica of a boy is rejected by his aggrieved creator, he goes off to find his own identity in an adventure that would make him the greatest hero of his time. When a scientist's young son dies, he secretly creates a powerful robot child to replace him, however the robot uses its incredible powers to become a world famous super-hero, and faces his biggest challenge when an alien race threatens Earth. Toby Tenma is a boy living in the futuristic floating citystate Metro City. It's a world of robots spearheaded by Toby's often-absent father Dr. Tenma, the famous roboticist head of the Ministry of Science. Toby is smart, overconfident and inquisitive. Dr. Elefun discovers a new power source from space called the Blue Core. By developing it, its opposite of chaotic violent energy Red Core is created. Dr. Tenma's weapons test get hijacked by incompetent leader President Stone who installs the Red Core. Toby sneaks in and gets killed by the military robot the Peacekeeper. Suffering from grief, Dr. Tenma creates a robot replacement with Toby's memories and the Blue Core. However he doesn't live up to expectations and Tenma rejects him. President Stone tries to recover the Blue Core but Astro Boy tumbles off the city onto the surface. He finds discarded robots and a bunch of orphans led by Cora and adult Hamegg who thinks that Astro is actually a boy. Hamegg accidentally scans Astro and realizes that he's a robot. Hamegg forces Astro to fight in gladiator bouts with other robots.<br/><br/>The biggest problem is that the movie introduces the boy and then kills him off 10 minutes later. They should make Toby a memory instead. This should be only about Astro Boy anyways. Also killing off a boy is something I wouldn't do in a kiddie movie. It's a real bummer. The story owes a lot to Pinocchio and feels unoriginal because of it. The animation is colorful and fun. I'm sure kids could enjoy the energetic visuals. Once Astro Boy gets on the surface, the movie is fine. However this does feel schizophrenic with one part kiddie movie and the other part something more serious. Set in futuristic Metro City, Astro Boy is about a young robot with incredible powers created by a brilliant scientist in the image of the son he has lost. <br/><br/>Unable to fulfil the grieving man's expectations, our hero embarks on a journey in search of acceptance, experiencing betrayal and a netherworld of robot gladiators, before he returns to save Metro City and reconcile with the father who had rejected him….<br/><br/>Not a bad film, but with the spate of CGI movies being put on the cinema,this has to be one of the weakest ones released in the last few years.<br/><br/>The voice acting has a different array of stars, but a lot of them most significantly Cage, seem to be talking in their sleep. They seem very dis-interested, and this really effects the narrative of the film.<br/><br/>If you look a little deeper (me having never the seen the original series), there are notable connotations to Pinocchio and oliver twist, but these never really get elaborated on, the makers soon concentrate on the gladiator type set pieces, and the big finale, which looks a little cheap.<br/><br/>Kids will lap it up though, it's colourful and very funny in a kiddie like way, and one feels when watching this, it was destined for 3-D.<br/><br/>there are a few funny pieces for adults, but they are few and far between, and never really hold your attention span. A marvelously designed piece of cartoon kinetics.
